Who We Are

In February of 1977, Joe & Sherrell Evans, 19 and 20 years old were out late in the evening searching for the perfect place to begin their dream of opening a beauty school. Not able to find a building large enough to accommodate a cosmetology school in New Braunfels, they drove the 17 miles to Seguin. At almost midnight, they believed they found the perfect spot right on the town square. Three months later and hundreds of work hours, Seguin Beauty School began its first class on May 31, 1977.   The couple met in high school at the age of 15. Sherrell jokes that Joe asked her to marry him and answered with “do you want to go to beauty school.” She actually said yes, but followed up with the beauty school question. Joe had never heard of a “beauty school” but Sherrell believed she was destined to the Cosmetology business, open a cosmetology school and teach as her mother, father, maternal grandparents and aunts and uncles on both sides of the family did.

And so they did. Joe was the Chief Administrator, school director, business manager, fiscal officer, inventory manager, advertising manager, janitor and receptionist. Sherrell was the admissions director, director of education, instructor, classroom media developer, student counselor, academic advisor, job placement director. 46 years later, they still hold most the same titles.

Jennifer Evans, the school owner’s daughter, became the fourth generation cosmetologist in the family. She began her instructor career in 2004 and currently is the SBS campus administrator and admissions director. Jennifer is knowledgeable in all aspects of the school. She supervises the tasks and actions of all employees and assists prospective students in making the decision to join the profession.  She is the Assistant Chief Administrator of Seguin Beauty School

In 1984, the Evans’ approached a young and upcoming graduate, Lidia Torres Rodriguez, about joining their team. She proudly accepted the offer, obtained her instructor license in 1985 and began teaching at the main campus.

In 1986, a second campus was opened, Seguin Beauty School – New Braunfels. Although the school closed in 2022, a year after its opening, the Evans needed a manager who was honest, ethical and was willing to work hard. They knew it had to be someone with the ability to be an effective team leader and could inspire others to achieve great results. They didn’t have to look far. Lidia Rodriguez was promoted to school manager and senior instructor. She has a clear vision, is fair and consistent and is a pro at multitasking. To date Ms R., as known by her students, has been educating students for 38 years and has maintained the successful educational institution.  She currently serves as the Local Administrator in Seguin

In 1991, Mary Castilleja joined the SBSNB team and has been an undeniable asset. Ms. C has a passion for the profession and it shows every day in her classroom. She has an engaging personality and holds the attention of her students. She’s truly cares about her students so her lesson plans are creative, her students have fun, and her graduates know the technical skills and principles of Cosmetology to make it in the beauty industry.   She is the Master Educator at Seguin Beauty School.

Seguin Beauty School has had the honor of sharing knowledge and skills with hundreds of men and women who have made the “beauty” journey with us and passed through our doors proudly displaying their diplomas. Our graduates have become part of the ever-growing beauty industry as stylists, manicurists, nail technicians, hair color specialist, cruise ship stylists, independent contractors, salon managers, salon owners, regional supervisors, manufacturer representatives, state board inspectors, state board examiners, and state board education directors.

Lastly, the campus community is greeted every morning with welcoming smiles.  The school staff assist the salon guests and students throughout their daily activities.  They are the cheerful voices you hear on the phone when calling the schools for hours, services and prices.  They director the School Salon services and guest requests. They keep the students needs met by replenishing the product inventory and assist the educators in classroom document  preparation.

The entire Seguin Beauty School team strives to provide an environment that will help students grow and develop into successful productive members of the beauty industry
